Threaded or Push-Fit Hookah?

The difference between threaded and push-fit hookahs lies not only in the screw or push-fit connection. In most cases, these two types of hookahs also differ in their smoking characteristics.

Origin of the Push-Fit Hookah:

In most cases, traditional hookahs are equipped with a push-fit system – this was much simpler back then than developing a matching threaded counterpart, as technology wasn’t as advanced as it is today. With a push-fit hookah, the pipe is connected to the bowl using a rubber gasket.

Threaded Hookah:

Unlike the push-fit hookah, the threaded hookah, as the name suggests, is screwed together. The lower part of the threaded fitting is glued to the bowl and cannot be removed – the entire hookah is then screwed onto the threaded fitting.

Smoking Characteristics

Since plug-in hookahs have a long tradition, their basic design has changed very little to this day. Traditional plug-in hookahs usually have a different smoking characteristic than more modern screw-in hookah designs. Traditional hookahs generally have a more direct, more noticeable response. Drawing on a traditional hookah is somewhat “harder” because the inner diameter is smaller than that of a modern hookah. Modern hookahs, on the other hand, are generally “easier” to draw on. Because the inner diameter is usually larger, the airflow is greater. The draw is usually very easy and offers little resistance.

Comparing the two, there is no better or worse, as it simply depends on which design the end user prefers. However, it can be said that the design of both hookahs has no influence on smoke production, as this usually has little to do with the hookah itself and much more to do with the bowl and the attachment.
